Shawn Stimmel--
Head Coach

First year at Mount Mercy College
Alma Mater: Coe College '98

Stimmel begins his first year at Mount Mercy College after one season at NCAA Division III Saint Mary’s University (Minn.). Prior to arriving at Saint Mary’s, he was head women’s basketball coach at King College (Tenn.), an NAIA Division II program. In two years at King, the Tornado averaged 19 wins per season and earned the school’s first-ever national ranking.

Before taking over at King, Stimmel was an assistant men’s basketball coach at NAIA Division II top-ranked Jamestown College (N.D.) in 2003-04, associate head men’s basketball coach at his alma mater, Coe College, from 2001-03 and assistant men’s basketball coach at Southwestern College (Kan.) from 2000-01.

Stimmel, a Tiffin, Iowa, native and former Clear Creek-Amana prep, graduated from Coe in 1998 with a bachelor of arts in physical education and secondary education and earned a master of science in sports studies from Bemidji State University (Minn.) in 2003. He and his wife, Jessica, have two children, Caden and Bella.


Brandy Furler--Assistant Coach

Fourth year at Mount Mercy College
Alma Mater: Mount Mercy College '04

Furler joined the Mustang coaching staff after an outstanding two-sport career at Mount Mercy College. She was a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete and all-Midwest Classic Conference performer in basketball and volleyball, and was the Most Valuable Player for both squads as a senior. In basketball, Furler is 17th in career scoring with 1,132 points and sixth in career rebounds (674) and career blocked shots (64).
